System Quick Fact
Ridership was up 4.2% during the 05’ holiday season.
Ridership littering complaints in FY 2005 were down 12% from FY 2004. The Subway Authority attributes this dramatic improvement to the successful “Mr. Clean Fish Says: Keep Our Stations Neat & Clean” 2005 community outreach campaign.
The campaign was funded by the Merritt Island Rotary Club [meeting each Thursday noon at Piccadilly Cafeteria @ Merritt Square Mall.

recent events

The 520/Business District Transfer Station, the busiest and largest of the Merritt Island Subway System stations has recently undergone an extensive renovation. Improvements include pressure cleaning, tile replacement and upgraded turnstiles.
Charles T. Harvey, Executive Director of the Merritt Island Subway Authority remarked that the renovation was completed on-schedule and on-budget. Tropical Elementary School and Mila Elementary School 5th grade students have contributed artwork for the renovated station through the cooperation of the Brevard Cultural Alliance.
Subway token Update
Tokens are now available for purchase at station automated token machines.
“Our inventory of tokens was very low after the recent holiday season, and we have replenished our supply.” commented Juan Pineda, Merritt Island Subway Authority spokesperson. “Visitors to our beautiful area buy tokens as a souvenir of their ride on our subway and of their visit to our area.”

Oooops!

The Raymond family of Wichita, KS arrived six months early to the new, tentatively named ‘Mayor Mike Blake 528/Cocoa Station” at the corner of US 1 and 528 [scheduled to open November ‘06]. Ever mindful of customer satisfaction, MISA painter Bill Harrison pointed them in the direction of the Cocoa Village station.

February, 2006 -- The Merritt Island Subway Authority announces the selection of efSmart Marketing Services, with offices on Merritt Island and Valencia, California, to handle system public relations, promotion, and advertising.

Cocoa Station Opening Announced
December, 2005 -- The Merritt Island Subway Authority announces the tentatively named ‘Mayor Mike Blake Cocoa/528 Subway Station’ will be open in November. The station will be the western central terminus of the Merritt Island Subway System.

Merritt Island Subway Authority announces the winning bidder for new turnstiles at the Thomas Wasdin Subway Station at the soon-to-be-completed Mitchell Ellington Park on North Merritt Island. Alvarado Manufacturing Company has been selected to deliver electrically controlled EDCX turnstiles utilizing a state-of-the-art controller with opto-interrupter rotation detection.
